Reviewed by licensed insurance agents· Updated August 2026

Past 80 the market narrows, but it does not close: we placed 366 policies for buyers aged 80 and up in the last 24 months. Here is what they pay and how the plans really work — graded benefits included.

Quick answer

Buyers 80+ in our book pay a median $101/month (366 policies, rolling 24-month window). Several A-rated carriers issue guaranteed acceptance to age 85 — no health questions, with a 2-year graded death benefit. Women pay a median $88/month vs $110 for men. Healthier applicants can still get day-one simplified issue.

Why $25K ≈ $10K here

$25,000 medians $109/month vs $110 for $10,000 in our 80+ book. That is self-selection, not a price list: healthier buyers qualify for better per-dollar rates and choose more coverage. Your own $25,000 quote will not be cheaper than your $10,000 quote.

Guaranteed acceptance to 85

Several A-rated carriers issue guaranteed-acceptance whole life through age 85 — no health questions, no exam, approval is automatic. The trade-off is the graded period and a higher price per $1,000.

The graded benefit, plainly

Die of natural causes in the first 2 years and the policy pays premiums back plus interest — not the face amount. Accidental death pays in full from day one. After year 2, the full benefit applies for life.

Plans available after 80

Both paths are whole life — level premiums, no expiration. More on how the product works: whole life for seniors.
