Life insurance for seniors — real 2026 rates by age
Most life insurance for seniors is small whole-life coverage — usually $10,000 to $50,000 — that never expires, builds no medical hurdles, and pays beneficiaries fast. Here is what seniors in our own book of placed policies actually pay in 2026, by age and coverage amount.
Across our placed policies, seniors pay about $50–$135 a month for a typical plan. A 60-something averages roughly $68/mo for $10,000 or $91/mo for $25,000; a 70-something, about $81/mo for $10,000 or $114/mo for $25,000. No medical exam is required on most plans.

What drives a senior's life insurance rate
Age
The biggest factor by far. In our book the average monthly premium roughly doubles from the mid-50s ($50–83) to the late-70s ($134).
Coverage amount
$25,000 is the most common choice in our book (41% of policies), followed by $50,000 (28%). More coverage means a higher premium.
Tobacco
Smokers and tobacco users typically pay 30–50% more for the same plan.
Health & plan type
Simplified-issue plans ask a few health questions for the best price; guaranteed-issue skips them entirely for a slightly higher rate.
Gender
Women generally pay a little less than men at the same age because they live longer on average.
State
Availability and pricing vary by state. Our highest-volume states are TX, FL, GA, CA and NC.
